How Does Box City Work?
Prospective residents pay or raise pledges of $100 or more for the experience of staying overnight in Box City. Residents bring their own box “home” that can be decorated to compete for a prize.
Youth Groups/Clubs/Service organizations
Box City is open to people of all ages and affiliations. We encourage youth groups, service organizations, school service clubs, community groups, sports teams, Boy/Girl Scouts, etc. to use this event as a community service and learning project. The activities and entertainment will be geared for families, and participants will sleep outdoors in a secure area. A minimum of one adult (age 21 or over) per 7 youth under the age of 18 is required.
Pledge and consent forms for your family, team, or organization are available on our website. PRIZES will be awarded for most money raised by an individual, group, or family.
Life In Box City
Arrive for set-up on Saturday, October 1st between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. Be sure to bring your own dwelling: cardboard box or pop-up tent, a sleeping bag, tarp to keep your bedding dry in the dewy grass, pillow, flashlight, and refillable water bottle. Box City will provide dinner and breakfast for participants, consisting of modest, homeless-shelter style meals. (Please feel free to bring snacks to share). Event concludes at 7:00 am on Sunday, October 2nd.
